Important Advisory During the Election Period

Please be reminded of the following guidelines that take effect upon the issuance of the Writ of Election. These rules will remain in place throughout the election period. Any threads or posts that violate these guidelines will be removed:

1. No Polls or Surveys on Political Parties

Once the election period begins, it is prohibited to conduct or share any form of polls or straw surveys about how people intend to vote—whether in person, over the phone, or online. Such polls can potentially influence voter decisions and are therefore not allowed.

2. No Predictions or Commentary on Voting Outcomes

Any statements, forecasts, or estimations that may affect or appear to influence the outcome of the election are strictly prohibited.

These restrictions are in accordance with Section 78C of the Parliamentary Elections Act, which makes it an offence to publish the results of any "election survey" during the blackout period—starting from the day the Writ of Election is issued until polling stations close on polling day. Violations may result in a fine of up to $1,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months.

If you come across any content that may breach these rules, please use the Report Post function within the forum or start a feedback thread.

Thank you for helping to keep our forum a respectful and informative space for all.

Advisory on Online Election Advertising (OEA)

Online Election Advertising (OEA) refers to any form of election-related content—whether paid or unpaid—intended to promote or enhance the image of a political party or candidate, and made accessible via the internet.

Key Requirements for Publishing OEA:

All OEA content must clearly display the following identity details:

The full name (as in NRIC) or full name of the entity responsible for publishing the content.

The name(s) of the person(s) who directed the content to be published.

The name(s) of the person(s) who approved the content.

Exemption from Publisher Identification:

Singapore citizens who are not candidates or election agents, and who share OEA content in their personal capacity, without any form of payment or direction from others, are exempted from the requirement to display publishing particulars.

This summary is based on the provisions under the Parliamentary Elections Act.

When is OEA Permitted?

Allowed: During the campaign period.

Not Allowed: On Cooling-Off Day and Polling Day.

Reposting or resurfacing previously published OEA content during Cooling-Off Day or Polling Day is also considered a violation of the election advertising rules under the Parliamentary Elections Act.

Please refer to the official guidelines or consult the Elections Department if you require further clarification.

No advertising or promotion of any candidate.

No avatars or signatures that show support, promote, or advertise any candidate.

No surveys or polls related to election results.

No new or existing threads/posts that express support for, promote, or advertise any candidate.

Any content that violates these rules will be locked or removed.
