Domestic helper who worked in S'pore for 30 years suffers stroke, employers seeking help for medical bills

Employers raising S$70,000 to cover foreign domestic helper's stroke treatment
A recent campaign on GIVE.Asia, a free fundraising platform, was launched by a user named "Kay Y" to support their domestic helper, Ana, who suffered a stroke while working in Singapore.

Kay Y shared that Ana, aged 55 and unmarried, has worked as a domestic helper for 30 years to support her family in the Philippines.

Ana has been employed by Kay Y's family for the past two years and has quickly become an essential part of their household.

Diagnosed with stroke following a severe headache
On 21 Oct, Ana experienced a severe, persistent headache and was rushed to the National University Hospital (NUH).

Doctors found two brain aneurysms, which had caused a stroke.

The next day, Ana underwent endovascular coiling surgery to relieve the pressure on her brain.
Although the surgery was successful, her recovery has been challenging, with multiple spasms requiring urgent interventions.

As of 30 Oct, Ana remains in the High Dependency Unit (HDU). Her medical bills have already exceeded her insurance coverage of S$60,000, reaching nearly S$75,000 in just one week.

The cost of her medical treatment is rising rapidly, with no clear end in sight.
Seeking S$70,000 to support further treatments
To continue Ana's care, Kay Y aims to raise an additional S$70,000 beyond the insurance limit.

These funds will cover her thrombosis treatments, an additional 10 days of intensive HDU care, follow-up scans, and further recovery in the general ward.

Additional expenses may include arranging medical assistance for her journey back home, possibly requiring an air ambulance.

Kay Y expressed hope for Ana's full recovery, wishing for her to receive the necessary care to eventually return home to her family in the Philippines.

She also noted that any remaining funds would be donated to a certified stroke rehabilitation centre or a relevant charity in Ana's hometown of Iloilo City.

As of the latest update, the campaign has raised almost S$14,000.
