Hey the part where temple asking money for Reno sounds so familiar.

My side hougang temple, where my Dad tablet is, they ask money for maintenance to prevent temple getting torn down.

very common nowadays, abit sad that they resort to such ways to "earn money"

the money we pay for the tablets and urns arent cheap also...

the head monk of the temple my grandparents tablets are placed drives an e class, lol

Actually not wrong also. Paid to do good. Must have salary to pay bills and put food on table also unless that guy is already damn rich and still expecting a high salary for his work

haha its a job that pays, so they probably should just do it quietly instead of self glorifying

Depends on that person's intention and how he/she phrase it then

I do know of ppl who become teachers, nurses, scdf, police because they feel that it's purposeful. They are paid well too but that doesn't mean they are in it for the money alone

And the so called volunteers who dun get paid, many are doing for their own agendas too. Too bored, to socialise, to network for biz, put on resume etc

They are no less guilty than those who are paid to do the job

Those ppl exist too but far and few I believe. As what you said, passion and reality is a thin line. When they realise they no longer have the time and money to continue volunteering then they will stop

Just to share. I know of ppl going to 3rd world countries to volunteer for a year, they either quit their job or took sabbatical leave. They are not paid but given living expenses by the charity organisation/ngo. So in the end, they are indirectly paid for their services, ngos have to fork out money one way or another. That's how it is. Volunteer, zero profit or non profit doesn't really mean no money involved

Of cos things can by quite grey, there may be corruption and some staff can be quite haolian
