SINGAPORE – Singaporeans are replacing their phones every 2.7 years, contributing to some 2.9 million mobile phones being stowed away, a new study shows.

But one Singapore start-up is hoping to change this and keep phones in circulation for five years here. This will be even longer than the global smartphone replacement cycle of 3.5 years on average.

Cinch plans to meet this target by renting out instead of selling the devices to consumers, ensuring that the returned units at the end of the rental period are refurbished to get a new lease of life with another user.

"We're trying to extend the useful life of these devices beyond the average refresh rate," said Mr Mahir Hamid, chief executive and co-founder of Cinch, which

Why will u rent a phone for 2 yrs for 1.6k

When a new one is supposedly 1.8k

I use my samsung s23+, also nv cost so much when i first bought and now alr use 2 yr 3 mth?

After u rent finish 2 yrs u return to the company and they later see ur phone all the sexy videos, ur bitcoins, passwords?

Then they expect me to rent for 3 yrs so they turn a profit and can recycle or resell the phone?

Does the biz model even fucking make sense or not.

Or if u all rem the make ur own instant noodle shops that doesnt make fucking sense compared to bigger countries.. and even such concepts with just instant noodles wont work long, in countries like US whr theres gas stations with other foods. Much less in sg whr so many 24 stores and 7-11 except u got more types of noodles and can put things like hot dogs, fish balls
