You notice the time since it happened till now? At least a week has passed, if he really so chin chai he would have "dropped it" ages ago. So most likely it went all the way up, maybe to pinky or some bureaucrat, then orders came down again telling him what to do.

If you really so good hearted you would have "dropped it" immediately the next day when interviewed.
