1 man show not easy....and usually the q will be very long and some customers may not bother to patronise that stall. Also, biz will be less if the stall can only serve a limited pax during peak hrs

most old hawkers either on old scheme or they bought over the store, old time can

now everything also through tender and everyone thinks sipeh easy to make money, bid high high.... but many other costs never take into account

First gen hawkers their rental very cheap few hundreds only. Then initially can sublet to others when they old to earn rental but wp propose don't allow subletting then now cannot but alot of them still secretly do renting out their stall for $1800 passive income by putting their name together as partners

as compare to 80s/90s even early 00s, majority of hawkers were hired their own assistant(s) to take order, to serve and to clean. You don even see any customer serve themselves literally except q for daobao.   

Unlike now, outsource liao but the dining experience become worse and expensive as well.

While I applaud the younger gen to become hawkers but I believe many of them are in just for the quick buck. Maybe want to make their brand big then sell it off

Nothing wrong with that but many want to smoke us by citing passion for food, continue heritage etc bs to justify their hawker career

Good point. I also remember that most hawkers have assistants then. Now hawkers can't afford to hire them due to high rentals and other costs.
