SG retail/fnb svc standard getting worse

I'm not expecting to be treated like a king much like at a 5 star hotel but nowadays they dun even bother to greet and thank customers? In fact, I'm the one who is greeting and thanking them

Just went to Decathlon to collect my order

Me: Gd afternoon, I'm here to collect my order
Staff: Let me scan the QR code

After collecting my order

Me: Thank you
Staff: *walk off*


Not even a hello and bye, so hostile. Observed the same at many places

Even McDonald's and supermarket's staff are better

a few factors. they are not paid fairly and thus have no motivation.

and i think a lot of them are part-timers who are also not well-trained.

made worse by how such jobs are frowned upon in an asian society. so they don't feel a sense of pride.

also, the management does not treat them well.

you can tell a lot about the management of a place from how their staff behaves to customers.

It's like I omit "Dear xxx" and "Best regards" in my email just because I'm a lowly paid clerk working in a sme and those are just formalities which I expect everyone to know
