The Parliamentary Elections Act has been amended to allow non-citizen immediate family members of candidates to participate in designated campaign activities.
In the upcoming general elections, candidates' immediate family members, even if they are foreigners, will be allowed to support them by participating in campaign activities, no longer restricted by relevant parliamentary election regulations.
This means that non-citizen immediate family members of candidates can accompany them to meet voters, attend public rallies, and appear in campaign advertisements during the election period.
Several amendments to the Parliamentary Elections Act and the Presidential Elections Act were published in the government gazette on January 20. One of the gazette notices pertains to the regulations regarding foreign participation in campaign activities under the amended Parliamentary Elections Act.
According to Section 83(1)(c) of the Act, foreigners are prohibited from engaging in campaign activities. The amended Act introduces a new provision that exempts non-citizen immediate family members of candidates from this ban, allowing them to participate in designated campaign activities. However, individuals under the age of 16 are still not permitted to engage in campaign activities.
In response to media inquiries, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the amendment is a pragmatic approach, acknowledging that potential candidates may have non-citizen immediate family members who wish to support them while maintaining the principle that only Singapore citizens should actively participate in Singapore's political process.

This means if a sinkie candidate's family member is a CECA, he or she can support by campaigning for the sinkie candidate.

Because 61% gave supermajority mandate. Sg really needs 1/3 opposition members in parliament to keep pap in check.

Nose idea, just giving example that ceca/jiuhu/tiong can help sinkie candidates spin their narrative during election campaign. Fica for opposition while incumbents can make use of alien origin family members to talk down to native sinkies
