Title: Consumerism /manufactured demand
Post by: Arctic on Jan 24, 2025, 09:44 AM
What are some of them which you noticed in daily life?

Was watching a review of samsung s25 series and it mentioned that the regular s25 is samsung's smallest phone despite being a flagship. Realised that nowadays flagship is no longer good enough. Must get the pro and ultra ver. It's the same for other phone manufacturers

It's like having a degree is not enough, must have a masters
A standard car is not good enough, must have the sport edition
Even having a standard fastfood meal must up size it too

What do you think? Are you a victim?

It's a way to squeeze more money from consumers by gatekeeping new features to flagship devices. Ex. Getting an iphone is not enough. Must get iphone pro max :flash:

Maybe putting items as out of stock so that people will buy the remaining items available. Releasing certain phone model earlier than the other to direct consumers to purchase the more expensive option.

That's a real demand case

Unless you are talking about how ppl are deceived to buy a more expensive brand/type over another without merit

Essential worker only.

And these people should be getting free or cheap masks instead of asking them pay 50 dollar for masks.

I did my part. Stay home mai go out. Didn't chiong to buy mask until they become like some commodity.
Waited for gahmen give foc masks before go out. Don't feed the manufactured fake demand.

I know the hindsight part.

That why I did whatever I think i can do there and then. Heng my bet was not wrong.

I never force my opinions on others also back then la.

I see some of my frens die die must go family tour overseas so go buy expensive mask go pay for jab come back liao kana covid jialat jialat now still cannot be back to former self.
I only shake my head at them when they telled me how cham they feel now compared to pre covid.

I tell them sometimes is more of using common sense more than cow sense.
U know is spread via air droplet contact u go out in public take plane in enclosed chamber just a piece of paper mask how much u think u are protected against it? Is maciam like in 50s yr agong tell u burn the talisman and drink with water will protect u.

Of cos gahmen panic gabra enforce so strictly I cannot say also.

But i just do what they said
Stay indoors
Mai go out unnecessarily

I only went out for grocery shopping during the lock down.
Sibehs song now think back that period

Take bas mrt no more than 6 pax u see. Sit also 1 seat away from u. Damn syok

It's more than phones and brands, it's tiers

You use oppo also got flagship, midrange and budget

Manufacturers are pushing ppl to buy flagships even thou most ppl won't use the extra features or even duno how to use and duno the difference etc

Beyond that, it's the same for many other products out there

Yah, I always stock up even if product not sold in bundle

Eg toiletries like toothpaste, shampoo, dental floss, always buy 6months or even 1 yr supply. Buy 3-4 units of each then when left with 1 unit, will buy 3-4 units again

I try to avoid. But doesn't mean I wouldn't.
In such case I may or may not buy the second pack due to bundle. I agree pricing is a big factor.

True.
At times if we dont wan too many, but there is good bundle discount. We will ask the shoppers standing near us looking at the same product, whether they wan to share. Many times they are ok.
