Title: Is networking important when applying for high paying jobs?
Post by: Philipkee on Jan 03, 2025, 07:14 AM
What do you think?

If you say networking is important, isn't this the same as saying meritocracy is dead?

If you say networking is not important, isn't this saying paper qualifications trump everything and CECA wan sui wan sui wan wan sui?

But if you got opportunities due to networking, isn't that cronyism based on what people say?

Definitely. With networking, foreigner gets easily referred by his friend who works for the coy as a manager or hr. Job Referral takes precedence before work exp/qualifications.

Odds of getting referred by a fellow singapore citizen is much lower. I hate to say this, foreigners & PRs refer me to jobs more often than singapore citizens do. So what if one's reputation is good? Sinkies jelly scared the person perform better than him . So what if one's reputation is no good? Sinkies are afraid to refer.

Would you refer your friend over?

I did it twice

One MIA after letter offer was offered.  I had to call the HR to say job is rejected.  Made me look very bad that my friend can't even tell the HR she is rejecting the job

One quit after probation and a lot of attitude problems

Now I scared liao.

I have no sg friend to refer. This is why it's always a  foreigner that referred moi. I feel sorry for you that you encountered sinkies who fly kites after you referred  them that role to HR.  Sadly sinkie pwn sinkie runs deep.

I know less criminals (negative network), I am of less use to them (negative networth) and I am poorer cos I lack the means to earn money illegally

Because it was old people estate. Then at that time many people say she worked hard. Coz need to fight strong oppo.

Now i dont know.

Anyway it shows its impt to 趁热打铁.

U see her, wang lei all these.

In some ways she has what it takes to bring her to this level. But only this level nia. And its also whether the boss sees u zai or not. 伯乐与千里马

To other bosses u may be nth, may even be shit. But if ur boss likes u, even if ure shit he will also say u are diamond.

She failed to win the hearts of lhl, lw and her corporate bosses.

If she nv marry her hubby i think she mid level manager ba, unless she meets her 伯乐.

In this case her bo le is her husband who also stands to gain

She is also zai at willing to go all out to seize all her chances.

One problem with most sinkies and people in general is we dont do such things to please people and seize chances.

Of course the capability must be there first la

This one is true.  We tend to be more passive and wait for opportunities to come to us or we follow TYS.

My relative quit a well paying job to start his own business in the same industry.  People say don't be foolish.  Now he is making big bucks.  The same people are now saying of cos la do business sure can earn so much.
