Post by: addict951 on Jul 06, 2024, 01:30 PM
I realised I am wor. No matter how much I try to deny it. Jia lat.
I buy things then I let them build up to a pile. Then I refuse to discard stuff. I keep thinking 以后有用的。以后有用的。 :s45:
@Shiori , you are too?

i am the opposite. If the item is unused better sell or recycle or discard asap. I don't like to keep or collect stuff.

There's a real-life hoarder in my neighbourhood and I know where she lives sia.
Time to time I can see her going around scavenging used stuff that ppl discarded.
This happened some years ago and she is still around today.

I went up and walked across the corridor and peeked inside.
My god, the sight was frightening sia.
The windows are all opened so I managed to have a full view of their living room.
I saw the kids sat on little furniture eating.
And surrounding them, all around the living room were towers and towers and towers of newspapers, cartons, and electronic stuff all stacked up till human height.
How to live like that sia.
This is my first real life encounter of hoarding. :s31:

Addict kor, my Dad was a hoarder, when he kena cancer, we started clearing his stuff (ard 30% which consist of around 15 trash bags), it's literally stepping on him when he was down. No choice because we also need some space for his medical equipment.

He loved to keep many empty bottles, pick ups from rubbish chute, anything that goes, even spoilt electronic equipment, thawed meats discarded by supermarts also keyi for my Dad. Even brought back used mattress from void decks. He thought those will come in handy when emergency arises. When he was healthy he had a nasty temper last time and we quarrelled frequently, if we throw his stuff he will threaten to throw ours.

the rest of the stuffs we bit by bit remove during his cancer journey, my Mum became a minimalist and she couldnt stand my Dad hoarding. the moment my Dad passed on, we did a massive cleanup of his items, thankfully managed to donate most of his items away in carousell to people who will appreciate his belongings. if not, recycling bin, last resort goes into the bin.

too cluttered is not good for mental health.

Agree now they more more profit minded , v choosy in terms of what they Tk
I uds la they Tk for zero n sell maybe 30% of usual price n thrift shops sell stuff at 50% of new price
So while they profiteering off my give away stuff .. i must say it s stil better than straight into landfill
I rather someone Tk away for 1/10-1/100 Of its price (karang guni labor n space n time n effort on a whole ) n mk 300-500% profit than my thing immediately die in e trash 🚮
I also given away brand new stuff off carousel

If like some clothing, cant decide on the colour will buy a few of same design.
Received unused gift, keep & reluctant to give away & maybe someday will use.

COVID time keep plastic containers to reuse in case hawkers ran out & now still keeping all shape & sizes to re use for leftovers inside fridge...etc
Now keep bags of plastic bags for throwing rubbish.
Don't throw away those old phone..old stuff when bought new ones when they died.
Time to shift to bigger home. Haizz

Wah I see u all so motivated
I feel I m the biggest lazy worm 🐛 ever
As a thin lkk
I asked other women they want clothing or not but all of them say don't want

Those who might want is can't fit cos my size odd size
They might not fit nicely so can't ask

My aunt told me Salvation Army or those v v big charity places r flooded or over whelmed with donations esp clothing / women / children preloved things so unless u give them perfect or brand new thing .. usually they can't handle n will dispose them to karang guni or other less usable sources eg clothing cut into rags despite them being good usable clothing

This is major reason why I prefer give someone hand me downs more than anyth

My frens and extended family even pay large freight $ to send clothings to Philippines and Myanmar
I ll tumpang them 1-2 bags each year .. too much trouble ppl is quite paisei cos they r paying freight
But at least They reach someone than becoming a rag or a landfilled spacer

@default what color is yr current wall ? If anyth doesn't matter what color u wish to hv as ur palette scheme  in whole color ?

So I stopped
A) I find don't need own so many unless really I need more
B) ppl really thk I m quite lazy n funny haha
C) back then lkk a bit meaty more so some clothing u try one color fits good
Then u Tk same sized one nv try
End up go home second and third piece fit exactly like bakzhang 🙊😖🫣☹️ instant regret level99

Maybe ladies more sensitive to fashion and clothings. For guys, we can wear the amw thing and nobody will care. Think a news reader actually did that a few years ago an an experiment. Wear same clothes for a period of time and nobody noticed

Maybe we old liao so dun really follow trend so same piece can buy in many colours and heck care

Yes, I do notice for the same piece of apparel, sometimes different colours fit differently although both are supposed to be same size. Else the material is different.

Sadness is u just throw away
After 1-6 months u need buy that same thoughtToBe useless thing at few times the cost vs 3-5 yr ago

Old stuff are really more lasting. My parents threw our wall clock (diamond brand) when we move house. Years later, I bought a similar one for $60 iirc. Now it's kind of popular among vintage collectors. Also have a 1969 seiko watch, still running perfectly too

Oh, my parents have the old school sewing machine too. Mum still using it now and then

Cos we always look at girls so will notice their clothes too. Short skirt, long skirt, sleeveless top, long sleeve top etc

Guys is always black pants and
white/blue, plain/stripe/ checker top for office attire. Nobody cares and nobody knows if we even change clothes at all

U know
Old things r meant to last one lifetime or more 以前制造商一台机器用几辈子
New things are meant to last a short brief while 现在制造商一台机器用一阵子

The old stuff really last a lifetime. The wood of bed really solid wood. Not MDF, no adhesive, laminate. Breathing VOC & health problem.
The sewing machine not made of plastic parts. Can last many generations. Just oil it.
