I noticed in edmw some people would like to give fake news and try to cover it with "my mental image or something". The one on CHT not at the TEL opening ceremony but actually the face was blurred out.

I recently went to Vietnam and there is a scam. Now, after I got scammed, I read on Reddit and I realised it's a new scam.
One is the PHV. You book a phv at the airport. A car with another plate number would come and he say he is your driver. You show the booking and say it's a different number and he would show he has your booking. Now what happens is that when you show your booking, he or an accomplice would take a photo of your phone and send to the fake driver handphone so you see a photo of the booking but it would be like a message so it seems like he got the notification to pick you up. If you blur blur like me after travelling and you see the booking and you have language barrier, you might think maybe it's legit cos only in Singapore it's so strict that the number must match. That is scam number one
Scam number two, the driver will say he need you to pay for the toll. Now this is half a scam.
Cos the driver needs YOU to pay the toll. The only thing is would it be charged to you or you pay in cash. If it's charged to you it will be in your bill so let's say bill is 50k dong and toll is 20k dong, what the driver should do is pay the 20k dong from his pocket and after you drop off the 50k dong ride, you will get the receipt that you have paid 50k dong plus an additional 20k dong for toll. But what he does is he asks you for 20k dong for the toll which he pays and then after the trip and you drop off you realise you pay another 20k dong in your bill. It's about $1 only so the driver is banging you wont report him.
The other thing is if you are giving him the 20k dong in cash, you are unlikely to know how the note looks like cos Vietnamese dong looks similar. So the driver will say stop fumbling this is the 20k dong note and he takes it from your wallet. He will show you it's 20k dong and he places it on the dashboard. But if you never see carefully he has taken another note from below the 20k dong note. He also doesn't know what note he took but it's likely u never noticed so it's free money again from him.
So now I am doubly and triply more careful in Vietnam now

anyway most of the time we can differentiate scams
but what's worrying is those QRs sometimes people dunno then anyhow open URLs. it can even to some of us, or if we kena spoofed emails, sms etc

Yes. I remember cases where there are fake QR codes in charity boxes. They are pasted over genuine ones so the box itself is legit and maybe out of 100 stickers, 99 are legit 1 is fake. And people can't tell the difference cos after the scam they go back and see only the genuine ones unless they remember exactly which QR sticker they scanned

I heard of this before .. they say these scammers alws snatch whole wallet from u n say he took that note correct alr but actually they took extra $
Extra surcharge need $ out of receipt I also kenna before in sg

I told them u don't know don anyhow scan
U use yr cash better than accidentally scan a scammer sticker whole bank savings gone mia ed
I also had the scam calls from people who claim to be my friends. The thing is even though I know these are scams, they really sound so convincing that I felt I knew them from somewhere

I ever heard of this in Eastern Europe.
The scammers will work in a team. One person will throw a look alike baby doll at you. Instinctively, you will catch it. But now your hands are not guarding your wallet and the next accomplice takes it
On internet it's all just dolls but anecdotally some people say they actually throw live babies at you so even if you know it's a scam, either you let the baby crash and die in front of you or lose your wallet

I was reading some people on edmw suggested that banks should allow reverse transfers of paynow if transferrer lodges a complaint. I think this will open up a can of worms and lead to more issues
What do you guys think?

If scammed I feel there is certain degree bank hv to mk sure preventive security measures don't encourage or mk it easy for scammers n tricksters
But if those ownself type wrongly or ownself see payeee wrong and click transfer
My question is who bear costs for such service when ppl ownself careless
Can u imagine u hand $ to someone man on street and later expect mata help u retrieve cos u pass to a wrong person by own mistake ?
Some degree of personal responsibility has to be on individual bah

He got your name and number from paynow. Change your name in paynow to other things rather than name
Only kena unauthorised transactions on credit card before. Small amt but I reported it. Bank reversed the transactions and issued new card iirc

I once called a friend. But I thought it was funny to use a female voice to say 親爱的 xxx when the phone got picked up.
Unfortunately it was his wife who picked up the phone and I heard shouting in the background like "who is she" and "I don't know" then "you don't know how she know your name and number?"
The guy, my friend, came the phone and shouted who are you and I said who I was and he was like knn knn all the way
I knew him and the wife. We eventually laughed about it but I didn't try this joke anymore

Many many years ago, there was this couch surfing website where you could register and look at places you wanna go and then see if there were any people willing to let you stay in their house for free or a very low price. Normally you just sleep on the couch so that's why it's called couch surfing
In order to message potential hosts, you need to register on the website and one condition for registering is you must open your house for couch surfers as well. So I did.
I never did use the services but one day I came home and my mother asked me why a couple from Italy called my house looking for me and enquiring if my living room couch was free the following month.
My mother said wrong number and I told my mother I also dunno hehehe

Then we ask them qns like their house address, parents name, their fave colour ,food etc all the nonsense. In the end we cannot tahan and burst out laughing over the phone

I shared this story in HWZ before
When I was young I got a phone call from a boy. That time no caller id and only house phone. I keep saying wrong number then my dad got pissed cos he kept calling so my dad took over the phone.
Dunno how it happened but my dad ended up telling stories over the phone and every day on the dot at the same timing the boy would call and say "same boy" and my dad would take over the phone and tell stories.
Then one day after a few weeks the calls suddenly stopped. We never figured out who was the boy. I think my dad missed the boy also
